The Mid & South Essex (MSE) Sustainability and Transformation Partnership is pleased to announce that eight clinicians have been chosen to join the 2019 – 2020 Innovation Fellowship. The Innovation Fellowship was set up in 2018 to help advance improvements in patient care, the aim being to encourage and support the development, testing and adoption of new ideas and advance improvements in care for patients, communities and staff. It sits within the MSE Hospital Group Innovation Programme.

The successful Fellows and their innovations are:

Philip Alton Medical device to enable remote care of chronic respiratory patients

Bejoy F. Kuttikkate PLAMAC - a biodegradable laryngoscope, used to view the larynx

Gary Cordery ADELE - tissue viability nurse buddy

Krishan Ramdoo TympaHealth – microsuction for earwax

Adam Ali CareCompare – an online comparison tool for social care

Husain Khaki KroniKare - a wound scanner

Najeeb Rahman REDAR – Real Time Emergency Department Alert and Risk software

Ashish Kalraiya MediShout, an innovation to simplify the reporting of broken equipment.

This year the successful individuals were chosen from applications submitted by staff from across Mid and South Essex STP and from those on the NHS Clinical Entrepreneur programme who have great ideas based around the themes of outpatients; digitally enabled care, and self-care (patient activation).

Charlotte Williams, group director for strategy and new care models, said:

“Congratulations to all Fellows who have been chosen to join the Innovation Fellowship Programme this year. We had some excellent applications and I am sure that those appointed will have many opportunities to develop and test their ideas and innovations in ways that can benefit patients and support staff across the Mid and South Essex STP.”

The Fellows were formally introduced to existing Fellows and other stakeholders at the Innovation Fellowship 2019-2020 launch and induction event on Monday 25 November, held at Basildon Hospital.

With a welcome from Clare Panniker, CEO of MSE University Hospital Group, Fellows had an opportunity to share their innovation with staff and stakeholders from across the STP. Over the coming twelve months the Fellows will have access to a dedicated mentor and a series of learning and networking events to support the advancement of their innovation.

Gary Cordery and Husain Khaki were not able to attend the event but both sent videos introducing themselves and their innovations.
