Helping to build the Nursing Workforce in General Practice
Hosting a student nurse for two days a week
The Mid and South Essex Training Hub are launching an exciting new project in Essex to help meet the expected demand for General Practice Nurses in the coming years.
We are keen to recruit practices to host students on Wednesdays and Thursdays.
One third of the General Practice nursing workforce are due to retire soon.
To help inspire the next generation of nurses to join general practice nursing we are funding practices in your area to host student nurses for two days a week during a Digital Healthcare Placement. The remainder of the week, students are fully supported in a Virtual General Practice environment.
- Practices receive an enhanced payment of £30 per day when hosting the student
- The student works alongside a registered professional and helps where appropriate or observes practice
- Practices who have hosted students report an enjoyable experience, increase staff confidence and would welcome students again
- Students who undertook a similar placement said that they would now consider a career in General Practice
- No impact on clinical time for practice staff as student fully supported in a virtual environment away from the practice for most of the week
The cohorts take place:
- 9th August - 17th September 2021
- 27th September - 12th November 2021
