Step-up Admissions at Brentwood Community Hospital

To ensure that we are able to safely meet the needs of our patients during the COVID-19 (Coronavirus) outbreak, services across community hospital settings have been reconfigured and consolidated. Referrals from primary care are now being accepted re. step-up admissions at Brentwood Community Hospital, from across south and mid Essex.

Brentwood Community Hospital has the capacity of 158 beds which are accessible for both step-down and step-up patients.

Step-up admissions are ideally suited to patients who have a care need that cannot be managed or treated in their current setting (e.g. at home or in a care home) and may benefit from being stepped up into a community hospital (thus avoiding the need to visit A&E or a potential admission to an acute hospital).

Given the current pressures on acute hospitals due to COVID-19 (Coronavirus), a step-up admission when appropriate should be considered.
